Everything! The owners and staff were warm and friendly, our room was large, comfortable and well-appointed. Breakfasts and dinners were delicious. Our four night stay was the highlight of our two week visit to Scotland.

In the heart of Shetland, St Magnus Bay Hotel is set in beautiful, tranquil surroundings. It was once frequented by W. H. Auden and Christopher Isherwood, the poet and playwright. The staff was wonderful - courteous, friendly, kind and super helpful whenever we needed anything. They seemed to make every effort to be sure that their guests are well taken care of and have an enjoyable stay. Our room was spotlessly clean and our bed was extremely comfortable. Housekeeping was attentive as well. The breakfast was delicious and abundant. The restaurant was also excellent, with attentive service and delicious food. The location is in a gorgeous and magical part of Shetland. I look forward to returning on our next trip to Shetland!

Overlooking the shore of Busta Voe, on mainland Shetland, Busta House is a lovely old building with en suite bedrooms, large garden and superb local food. Excellent food and comfortable rooms.

Offering free WiFi throughout the property, Queens Hotel is set in Lerwick, within a few steps of Bain's Beach. The nearest airport is Sumburgh Airport, 42 km from the hotel. It is perfectly situated. This grand beautiful historic building is being renovated by the present owners. I had a room with a sea view which was magnificent. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. I loved the towel warmer and excellent water pressure in the shower. The staff were amazing. Sam, the owner’s son, went above the call of duty to provide towels and vacuum the sand I tracked into the room. Harvey, the owner, was fantastic! He even gave me a ride to the bus station. If you are interested in historic preservation this is the hotel for you. It sits actually into the sea next to Bain’s Beach. I had a fabulous week at the Queens Hotel.

Located in Lerwick, in a building dating from 19th century, 300 metres from Bain's Beach, The Grand Hotel provides guestrooms with free WiFi. The hotel features family rooms. It’s about the human connection, even when a few things go wrong. When I arrived my room wasn’t quite ready. But to make up for it the manager gave me a free coffee, offered me free drinks at the bar, and let me check out quite late. Everyone—the cook, the bartender—was so friendly and made really good travel suggestions. First rate people; they really make you feel at home.
