ibis Versailles Château, hotel in Versailles

Located just 200 metres from the Palace of Versailles is the hotel ibis Versailles Château with its 24-hour reception.

The shower was good. The location was also excellent but the trade-off for such a poorly equipped tiny room is not worth it.

I really liked to stay in the patio, however it was sometimes a bit cold. The breakfast was very good and diversified: I loved the eggs and omelettes that the lady was preparing us every morning. The bathrooms were nice and the bathtub was quite nice too. The staff was nice too

Located in Versailles City Centre, 1 km from Château de Versailles and 12 km from Montigny-le-Bretonneux, Hotel des Lys features a bar and free WiFi access.

The hotel is situated in a good and quiet area, close to everything by walk in few minutes. Interior of the hotel was clean, with a good smell and nice furniture. The room was small, nice and tidy. The bed was comfy. The isolation was also good, we didn't hear anything from outside and inside. The big advantage is that hotel has a parking space, which is behind the gate.

The palace was beautiful but I enjoyed the gardens and the Grand and Petit Trianon the most. Spent almost 6 hours there in total. But don't skip the town itself as it has really nice architecture, cute cobbled streets and many shops and restaurants.

I am assuming that most people travelling to Versailles are going for the Palaces and gardens. The grandeur and scale of the palaces is immense, the sense of history, excess and wealth really hits you. Having said that, you will be doing a lot of queing and you will be shuffling from room to room with 1000's of other people poking their cameras and phones into your space.

We loved Versailles plenty of cafe's, bars and restaurants to chose from at affordable prices, if you just fancy a light lunch wonderful deli offering excellent selection. Small Carrefour and other grocery stores easily accessible. We found it very easy to get around Versailles we had a 2 day pass for the Chateau and gardens and it was amazing. After reading reviews before we planned our trip we pre - booked our tickets for the earliest time possible as it can get very busy, it worked just fine we visited on Wednesday and again on Thursday.

I have been twice before over the years, It's a very expensive suburb of Paris now and an interesting town which revolves around the Chateau. The Chateau is a place you must visit once in your life at least, and allow a full day or more as the grounds are huge. It's a commercial tourist trap, long queues and not enough people selling tickets though all staff are very friendly and helpful. I would have bought online but couldn't fathom the headset guide, you could add it then it disappeared at checkout. Turns out you can't and don't need to pre-order, they are available after ticket check at a desk in the entrance, no queue. You can buy tickets from Tourist Information (they have an allocation) to beat the queues. Don't take a very expensive tour, the audio gives the same information and there are plenty of signs to stop you getting lost. Fantastic place but more or less just a portrait gallery and heaven for lovers of architecture. Just stand there and wonder at the scale, opulence and grandeur of the place. Not much catering, just essentials but the catering staff will refill a water bottle for you free if you ask nicely (a bit of French is handy). Be prepared to get your elbows out as although access is limited there are a lot of people inside, be prepared to wait for pictures and be tolerant of the bored and ignorant being dragged around! Book one of the local hotels, we used the Ibis, a 5 minute walk and used a restaurant on Rue de Satory which has a good selection and just outside the gates.

    Fantastic trip.

Fantastic trip. It had been on my bucket list for a long time and did not disappoint. Mercure hôtel exceptionally welcoming. Excellent breakfast. Would definitely recommend. The palace is of course the main reason to go to Versailles but I don’t advise visiting the inside on a Sunday. It was packed to the rafters and at time uncomfortably so. But hey ho! I loved it all. Enjoy your trip…

Versailles is not a welcoming place for visitors.

Versailles is not a welcoming place for visitors. No taxi service, The train tour of the palace is a rip off. They make you stand in the hot sun while the entire crew of drivers take a long break for lunch. If you get off there is a long wait time before you can get a spot on another train. Large tour groups block passage to many exhibits. Signage throughout the gardens and some displays is very poor and non existent in many places. A real disappointment. The hotel staff and restaurants were all good and made our time spent with them very enjoyable.

The host made our stay! He is like a personal tour guide, showing us books and maps and telling us how to prioritize our time at Chateau Versailles, plus he knew our next destination and recommended what to do there! He is so lovely, really warm and charming. The hotel is operating-room clean. The other reviews spoke of how clean the hotel is and I thought it was funny, isn't that a given? This place is REALLY gleaming. Great location near the train, the chateau and restaurants. We had a lovely time.

The apartment was easy to find, in a good location near the train station and close to shops. Not too far from the Palace of Versailles as well. The apartment was very spacious and clean, had all the facilities that we would want and was a very comfortable place to stay. I received a call and SMS details of how to find the apartment and get in as we were checking in late. The apartment exceeded our expectations and was one of the best places that we have ever stayed in.

The fourth-floor superior room with balcony was quiet, clean and big enough for a short stay. The bed was very comfortable. We would have liked to see bottled water delivered. Breakfast was top-notch. Dinner menu was very good, prepared of quality products although options were not that many. The hotel is within walking distance to Chateau Versailles.

Very comfortable and clean! The staff was so accomodating and helpful to us when our daughter came with us last minute and we needed an extra bed. It was an easy walk to the Train station so we could get into Paris easily and the Palace of Versailles was only about a 15 min walk. Also a grocery store is right across the street.

Adjoining rooms were spacious. High ceilings and grandeur. Location was perfectly located next to the park that leads to Versailles Palace and gardens. This is spectacular. The hotel was advertised as pet friendly and we had two pets with us. The hotel made them welcome. Would definitely return to this hotel.

We like the intimate setting. We decided not to rent a vehicle when in France, but instead take the train and walk. Our location was easy to walk to our destinations. When we wanted to go to Paris we just walked to the train and spent the whole day there not worried about traffic or directions.

Of the dozen hotels we used during our road trip through France, this was the nicest. Clean, nicely furnished. No AC (almost never AC in Europe unless you pay for a 5 star) but the fan kept us comfortable. Reliable wifi. Excellent modern shower. Really nice overall!
