Our recent stay at this remarkable campsite left us in awe of nature's splendor and the cozy charm of the hut we called home for a few days. Nestled perfectly between two breathtaking cascades, the location is nothing short of magical. Waking up to the soothing sounds of birds singing in the morning added an enchanting touch to our experience, making every moment feel like a harmonious retreat into nature.
The hut itself was a delightful haven. The clear window positioned right in the middle of the hut was a brilliant feature, allowing us to gaze at the stars from the comfort of our bed. Each night, we were treated to a mesmerizing display of the night sky, making it a truly unforgettable experience.
The combination of the serene environment, the proximity to the cascades, and the thoughtful design of the hut made our stay exceptional. Whether you're a nature enthusiast or simply looking for a tranquil escape, this campsite offers an unparalleled experience that we highly recommend. We left feeling rejuvenated and already dreaming of our next visit!

The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was lovely. Great for stepping out the door to do big hikes in the Buttermere fells and then returning to comfort. The staff were friendly and helpful.
This Lakeland slate house is 0.5 miles above Buttermere village, and ideal for the famous Haystacks walk. YHA Buttermere has a bar/restaurant with views of the Red Pike and High Stile mountains.

We felt very welcomed at YHA Buttermere. The location was beautiful. We have to say that we are really impressive with one of your staff Rob Lutter, therefore Rob provided clear instructions and was very patient with us, especially considering we are Deaf. He took the time to type up information for us and kindly lent us a map, even drawing on it for clarity. Impressively, Rob Lutter started learning to sign and communicated with us using sign language.
The cabin we stayed in was so comfortable, fun, with a solar light and electricity system. However, this system caused the lights to turn off unless there was movement, which made it difficult for us to communicate using sign language in the dark.
Despite this minor inconvenience, everything else was superb. Thank you for the wonderful stay, we look forward to returning soon!

Getting here was already promising, then arriving and parking confirmed that we made the right choice for a hotel near Keswick. The hotel is situated in an idyllic area, surrounded by green hills and very quiet as it is just a bit off the main road. We had a lovely greeting before being shown to our room and were even given tips for late-evening walks. Breakfast and dinner were both exquisite, far exceeding our expectations.
All in all, we could not have wished for a quieter, better equipped, or prettier hotel for our 3-day Lake District trip.
Set in 2 acres of tranquil wooded gardens. The charming rooms have TVs and tea and coffee facilities, and many have breathtaking views of the valley and fells.

Wonderful views, quiet rooms, excellent food and a very friendly welcome
If you’re pondering this place at all, DO IT! It’s the most beautiful setting. Recently updated, it’s impeccably clean. The view from our room was something from a movie! The staff is friendly, the restaurant delicious, the made to order breakfast is included, and they even offer a snack box for you for later. We enjoyed our stay so much, our only regret is that it was just a brief stop on a road trip.
Fellow Americans, our only warning is the drive in, the road is rather precarious. Didn’t seem to bother the locals but it’s down to one lane and curvy and overall a bit nerve racking. I wouldn’t put that here as a negative toward the hotel as it has nothing to do with them but just a warning!

Beautiful location, fabulous breakfast we also had an evening meal here which was also excellent, the staff in all areas are absolutely fabulous can’t do enough for you, room very clean & spacious but for price should have put water in room, could have provided little extras such as fridge, tissues, wine glasses, bit pricey for what we got per night but felt that was due to location

Beautiful little village with stunning views and lots of walks for different abilities. A pub, a hotel and a tea room for eating out. No shop to buy essentials and nearest shop a decent drive away so would recommend bringing food with you.

Stunning scenery, walks to suit all, whether you want a nice easy walk or a tough climb, and you might get to see the elusive Red Squirrel, we caught site of one while having breakfast in the Hotel.
A walk around the lake is a must, pretty flat path all the way round suitable for all, young and old to view the majesty of the surrounding peaks and the beauty of the valley, or a walk up Haystack or High Stile for the more experienced/fitter hikers, for those amazing views.
Superb location, lovely room with comfy bed; slept like a log! STAFF are the highlight of this hotel. Reception, housekeeping ( everything left spotless every day), lovely Pure Lakes toiletries, excellent service from bar and restaurant staff, lovely residents' lounge; a haven of peace as Buttermere was so busy.
Food was excellent though I found the portions a bit large as I'm getting older and don't walk as far or as high as I used to; 10 years ago I'd have wolfed the lot!
Lovely welcome by staff. The hotel is in the most perfect location - Buttermere is just beautiful. Lovely views from the hotel room, bar and breakfast room. Clean room, nice and spacious with everything you need. Bathroom was clean and the water nice and hot - great after getting caught in the rain out walking. Breakfast was super tasty, excellent service and the addition of the takeaway breakfast box was lovely added bonus!
Couldn’t fault this hotel. It’s in a stunning location and has a great beer garden where you can soak up the scenery while enjoying a pint and a meal. The food was delicious and the staff couldn’t have been more lovely. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and very quiet. As well an amazing cooked breakfast the next day they also gave us snack boxes to take for our onward journey which was a lovely touch. Highly recommend.
Staff extremely friendly and offered me directions for my planned walking routes the next day. Big building with self catering facilities, plenty of loos and showers.
Food (dinner and breakfast) was very nice and in line with other YHA hostels I’ve stayed at.
Big spacious lounge with superb views. Good location for hiking.
Buttermere YHA is a traditional youth hostel and ideal for those who love the spectacular scenery and proximity of the fells and lakes. I particularly like the fact that is always attracts people with a genuine appreciation of the area and love of walking.
All the staff were friendly and helpful.
This was my 40th wedding anniversary. We stayed at the Bridge Hotel on our honeymoon. The hotel has been modernized but the front entrance looks the same. It has a special place in our hearts.
Food was great. The bathroom and room renovations are really wonderful. It was well worth the return trip.
Beautiful location in Buttermere.
Lovely atmosphere in hotel, staff friendly.
Room very comfortable and nicely furnished.
No tv but didn’t need one.
Food excellent and great to be able to have bar meal in evening outside in the sun.
From the moment we crossed the threshold, the staff were welcoming and chatty. Hotel is in a great location. Lovely room with superb views, very clean and comfortable. Evening meal and breakfast were both excellent.
We both loved breakfast . Was great selection, we could make a bit mix and match not just what's on menu card .all hotel staff truly amazing and think that's made our stay really enjoyable
Breakfast was ample with plenty of choice. Location was good for me. Staff helpful and friendly. Very comfortable hotel. Bar meals also ample and plenty of choice. I liked the lounge.
Beautiful location, staff were friendly and very helpful and informative. Very welcoming hotel and the food was excellent. Only a couple of minutes walk to the shores of lake Buttermere
Lovely staff. Great choice of breakfast. Having reserved parking space at Buttermere is great as parking is an issue even on a rainy Sunday in September.
