Picture-postcard Heidelberg is guarded by its famous castle halfway up a hill. If you don’t fancy walking, a funicular railway goes there and continues to Königstuhl Mountain whose views are fit for the king it is named after. Dating to the 13th century, the ruined castle has peaceful gardens to wander, and the Heidelberg Tun, the world’s biggest wine barrel. And big it is!
At the foot of the hill is cobbled Hauptstrasse, supposedly Germany’s longest pedestrian shopping street selling traditional German beer mugs amongst other things. Also here are pavement cafes, the odd bierkeller and several Heidelberg hotels.
A short walk west is the Heiliggeistkirche (Church of the Holy Spirit), towering above the Baroque old town. Its square is the site of the Heidelberg Christmas markets, while to the north the beautiful Old Bridge crosses the Neckar River and ends at a twin-towered city gate.
Further west is Heidelberg University, the oldest in Germany and with a national reputation to rival Cambridge, its twin city. Over the river, Neckarwiese is a riverside park popular with students for a barbecue and beer, while by night the city’s many bars stay open until the early hours (and beyond!).
The nearest airports – Frankfurt and Stuttgart – both offer quick access by train to the Heidelberg accommodation on Booking.com

We just stopped for one night, between trains so just had a few hours and the evening. The Altstadt was very nice to wander round, and for a beer and dinner. I would like to go back and visit the castle, and see more of the town and area.

Heidelberg is a beautiful City.
Heidelberg is a beautiful City. You can't visit and have a bad time if you enjoy culture and exploration!
Choosing the right accommodation for you always helps of course but the City itself is enough to lift anyone's spirits.
Of course the castle on the hill was beautiful as you would expect. I knew it would look amazing up there before we went, and still wasn't prepared for how magnificent it was. The views from the castle were so scenic, I facetimed home to show them, which you were able to do up a mountain because there was 5G connection everywhere.
It is one of those places where if you do it right, you get to know the culture and understand it very quickly and immerse yourself in it.
Would highly recommend visiting at Christmas time.

A visit to Heidelberg castle is a must.
A visit to Heidelberg castle is a must. You can walk up a rather steep cobbled road, or get the funicular railway. Pay into the castle, or walk the grounds for free. The castle is derelict and uninhabited but the majority of the structure still stands. The view from the garden terrace in the grounds looking down the Rhine and over the old town is fabulous. There are plenty of opportunities to walk alongside the river either side of the old bridge. Lots of places to eat from snack bars and bakeries to restaurants and bars. A 2 day visit was ample for us
This hotel is absolutely lovely - the reception area is pristine and modern. Although our room wasn't quite ready on check in because the hotel was sold out, we were able to leave our luggage here and begin our visit to Heidelberg. We dealt with 2 girls at reception, both incredibly busy but incredibly helpful. I couldn't praise them enough. The breakfast was absolutely gorgeous too, with so much to choose from. The rooms were spotless and clearly newly decorated. Everything was to notch - I couldn't fault it.
The location is great. Close to the trolley to take you to Heidelberg Castle. You can easily walk to the famous Karl Theodor Bridge, commonly known as the Old Heildelberg Bridge . The center which was right outside the door of the hotel was charming , and had a lot of choices in foods. There were nice shops to get plenty of nice souvenirs. The breakfast had plenty of options. The area that breakfast was served was decorated beautifully. It is what you think of when you think of a small German restaurant.
The hotel is located in the very center of the old town of Heidelberg. It comes with a nice beer garden. They serve traditional German dishes, beer and wine. The service was excellent, the restaurant manager being very attentive, catering for the many guests on a nice summer evening. Our room was comparably big. No aircon but windows to open. There are two public parking garages nearby, however it was a bit of a struggle to get in. Well, it was a Saturday.
The hotel is superbly located. It is on the upper floors of a building in which the ground floor is the place one can take the funicular towards the Castle. The intermediate levels are a public parking. The address is just a couple of blocks away from the "Marktplatz". My wife and I had a wonderful evening and a marvelous night. In the morning, we enjoyed a plentiful breakfast on a balcony with a spectacular sight of the Heidelberg Castle.
Spacious room with very comfortable bed and excellent shower. It's worth paying for a room with a river balcony. Great breakfast. The staff were friendly and efficient. Very easy drive to Heidelberg. Even on a Saturday night, we found on-street parking on the main road by the foot bridge to the old town. It's worth contacting the hotel to book an off-road parking spot. I can't think of anything that could have been done better.
washer/dryer access was wonderful! garage, surprisingly, was not oversubscribed, so the last day when it rained, we were able to park inside and keep us and our suitcases dry. breakfast was fine, but too expensive, with warm croissants! filled up, though, and we had to leave and return 20 minutes later.
room, though small, had a huge balcony, in rainy Germany.
This sweet hotel above a wonderful German restaurant was perfect for a visit to lovely Heidelberg. I enjoyed the geraniums outside my windows and the cobbled street outside the door. We were so close to all the charms of the old city. My husband needed the lift. We were greeted warmly and Dennis was very helpful when I wanted to walk to the castle.
Very spacious room! Probably the most spacious I’ve seen in Germany. This hotel was above our expectations! Breakfast was amazing and the staff was very kind! Only 16 min walk from Hbf and bus and training station are also close. There are shops around and you can reach old town with multiple ways. Definitely worth the money!
I love this hotel. The staff were amazing and the breakfast was so good. The facilities are right in downtown Heidelberg easy to walk and they have parking for a reasonable price right in the next walk! I was very happy with my stay here and would definitely recommend this place again.
Fascinating location just under the castle in old town Heidelberg. Very different.
Small but comfortable room.
Room cool even on a very hot day.
Just a stroll into the old town.
Plenty of nearby restaurants.
Any shortcomings compensated for the 'uniqueness' of the hotel.
You can't beat the location of this hotel. Located in the old town section of Heidelberg, it's steps away from the bridge, and dozens of restaurants/shops/cafes. You could probably walk to Schloss Heidelberg from here, too; but will burn off some beer and schnitzel doing so.
The hotel is very well located in the heart of Heidelberg. You can take a tram or bus a few steps from the place, the city center is reachable by walk. The room was super clean and well maintained and the breakfast was fantastic. I really appreciated my stay.
My parents who traveled from Korea to Germany wanted a quiet hotel, so I booked it. It was a great hotel with fantastic views and a light walk to Heidelberg Castle. Above all, the staff was very friendly, and I felt like I was visiting my cousin's villa
The hotel is located in the city center and we could reach the 'Einkaufsstrasse' in a couple of minutes. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast is amazing. We will definitely book a room in this hotel again when we visit Heidelberg next year.
The excellent view from the room, close and easy transportation (bus) to Heidelberg. The room was clean
The hotel management / personnel are very helpful , friendly and kind.
